Festival Lent, the biggest multi-cultural summer festival in this part of Europe (end of June, beginning of July). Old Vine Festival, a festival of traditional autochthon Štajerska culinary, wine and fruit, the crown of which is the ceremonial grape harvesting of the oldest vine in the world. The scene of the festival, held in the last days of September, is the whole old town core.
At the beginning of November are the international Jazz Festival and Documentary Film Festival. Christmas-New Year events under the title Colourful December during the last days of the year unite people in the squares and streets of the old town core – festive stalls intertwine with concerts and open-air events. The Golden Fox, an annual competition of the best women skiers for the FIS World Cup takes place at the beginning of January.
The season in the Slovene National Theatre with drama, opera and ballet productions lasts from September to June. The copious concert season (philharmonic and chamber cycle) is complemented by the Musical September Festival. The Regional Museum Maribor houses numerous permanent collections and organises periodical exhibitions, while the National Liberation Museum is dedicated to 20th century events. The Art Gallery houses collections of international significance.
